"THE CLIFF HOUSE”
"The Cliff House", or " The Dragon House", is an amazing house located on a cliff slope with a 42-degree inclination facing the Mediterranean Sea. This house is extraordinary because of two elements: the roof and its furnishings, two major players whose craftsmanship and complex design development add incomparable value to the house.
The roof architecture has been structurally elaborated using a formwork system of deformable metal mesh and a double curved reinforced concrete shell matching the ground geometry as it frames the views and guides the air flows coming from the sea inwards. The Zinc roof tiles were also handcrafted and supported by battens. Interior furniture was digitally modelled by the architects, with exclusive personalised designs designed for the comfort of its guests.
The House is entirely eco-friendly: it is embedded in the ground, taking advantage of a stable 20-degree natural temperature throughout the year, ensuring greater energy efficiency. Additionally, there is a 40-centimetre air cavity between the house and the retaining walls, which adjusts both the air flow into the house at a constant temperature and the ventilation needed for humidity control. The project seeks to explore the limits between landscape integration and expressiveness.
House interior is on two floors: a spacious living room on terraces, following the natural slope of the mountain, which leads to a cantilevered terrace with a heated saline water swimming pool; and a first floor with rooms featuring balconies above the roof, contributing to the illusion of being perched on top of a large dragon. The house has a built area of 250 square metres on a property of 725 square metres.
The Cliff House restores architecture's ability to demonstrate that artisan work deserves its worth and upgrades housing construction. As a result, the house has gained international acclaim and is visited by hundreds of people eager to experience its extraordinary design.
